Final Piece!

I painted another chinese phoenix because it was really fun doing the last one and this one is gonna be my final piece for the project. I used acrylic paints on a size A1 (ish) board. I had to paint multiple layers so that the colours are shown clearly and solidly with no fades. I am very happy with the outcome of this piece, I like its vibrant bright colours and how it shows  a sense of radiance. It took about 3 days to finish it because I kept taking unnessary breaks being my lazy self XD. I am excited to see how well this shows at the exhibition, I hope people will actually look at it, there are so many other final pieces from other students that look amazing, I would not like mine being the shadows. I have submitted this painting onto the Deviant Art website, I would appreciate anyone who would give comments, favourite or even just give it an extra view. FMP Big Pieces

Chinese Temple
This is just a simple drawing of a chinese temple. I used pro markers for the colouring which took quite a while for the whole picture to be finished. Real temples usually have more detail than this but I didn't focus on detail much because I was afraid that I would ruin it.
Monkey King
This is one of my other versions of the Monkey King, he is a character of a chinese legend. I used fineliner pens and watercolours to create this piece. The chinese symbols says Monkey and King. I noticed that I drew his left hand a little wrong after I finished the colouring, its not that noticeable though unless you look closely...
Phoenix
I'm proud of how well my Phoenix turned out because I'm usually not this good at painting though I did use some reference. The chinese symbol says Phoenix.
Chinese Lanterns
These chinese lanterns were made out of Chinese red packets stuck together with sellotape. The smaller ones are not of my own designs, I didn't manage to finish them off but they still look pretty. The bigger lantern underneath are of my own designs that i created using a scanned image that I drew in my sketchbook. I'm happy with how it turned out even though it was a hassle to attach the red tassels along the edge. I was going to have these lanterns as my final piece for the project but my tutor told me that I would be better at doing a large scale drawing or painting because it's my specialty. I'm not too disappointed that I can't have these as my final piece because a large painting was one of my top choices to do as a final piece anyway.

Just a few big pieces on my FMP work. I like how they turned out, for some reason I'm able to work better on larger scales of surfaces.

Chinese Culture Project

 Front cover
Chinese Mask
Monkey King
Ok! So I'm finally on my final major project! This one is where we could choose our own topic to base our work on and I chose Chinese Culture because well im Chinese so yeah. I included things into my sketchbook to show a hint of what China is all about. I can't include absolutely everything because there's just too much beauty in the subject. Here is just a couple of pages of what I got so far, I will be uploading more stuff later on in the week. I hope you enjoy them!

Chinese Zodiacs

Here is my update! These are the 12 chinese zodiacs of the chinese calendar. It is the year of the Dragon 2012. I drew these animals using either water colors, pro markers, coloured pencils, paint, drawing inks and pastels. My zodiac is the rooster..unfortunately. Which ones yours?

Horror Project

This wolf painting took ages. I was told to paint it without starting with pencil first which is what I usually do so it was tough. Anyways, I like how it turned out, the blood gave it an extra oomph of a horror feeling to it. I als like how fluffy it is.

This project was all about the theme of horror. My sketchbook was filled with characters of horror but most of them are hinted more towards a younger audience. My final piece is called Little Munsters (not a typo), it's a front cover for a made up children's horror book. I digitized the characters from the original drawings using Photoshop. My favourite character has to be the baby devil, probably because red is my favourite colour.

Dragons!

These are chinese dragons that I painted and inked for one of my other units. I painted the red dragon first but I didn't like how it turned out so I tried doing another one in ink which is the one above. Both dragons were drawn on to A1 size paper. The green dragon was coloured with drawing inks and the red dragon was coloured with acrylic paints.

Drawing from Observation

 Front Cover

This is my drawing from observation project. Basically it was a project on where I had to draw anything from a primary source to show how well I can define objects. I mainly used pencils as that was my usual media when it comes to detailed drawings. This was good practice for my fine detailing and shading skills.

Manga Project

I was able to pick a what I wanted to do for one of my projects so I chose to do it about manga. I used different materials and media to create my artwork. Some of the characters in my work are of actual manga series and some of them are my own. The purpose of the project was to show what manga/anime is all about.

I turned myself into a chibi manga character, it was fun to do.

Final Piece
I created my final piece by turning my class mates into manga characters using Adobe Photoshop.
